Radically Authentic

How Quiet Achievers Stop Fitting In and Start Playing Big

You don't have to become someone else to lead.

We've been told leaders are bold, charismatic, and always ready with the answer.

So capable professionals spend their careers either trying to become someone they're not, or quietly waiting for their work to speak for itself.

Radically Authentic argues something different: the traits quiet achievers hide (listening, thoughtfulness, restraint, care) are not obstacles to leadership but the raw material of it.

This book doesn't teach you to perform leadership better. It teaches you to stop performing it.

Is this you?

This book is for the quiet achiever: the analytical, conscientious high performer who is trusted to deliver but too often overlooked for the stretch role.

  • You consistently deliver results but get passed over for opportunities

  • You wrestle with imposter syndrome, perfectionism, or people-pleasing

  • You want more influence without adopting a louder, performative style

  • You're tired of choosing between career success and being yourself

  • You've wondered whether you belong in the room at all

If you recognized yourself in more than two of those, this book was written for you.

What changes

Before: "I need to change how I show up if I want to advance."

After: "I don't need to become someone else. I need to trust who I am, make my strengths visible, and expand how I lead."

Inside the book

PART I: SELF-LEADERSHIP Know yourself. Change the story. Become visible.

Discover your essence and shift from automatic reactivity to intentional choice. Confront the inner narratives that keep you playing small: imposter syndrome, perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-doubt. Learn to reframe them. Part I closes with the Visibility Shift™: making your identity, impact, thinking, and intent accessible without it feeling like self-promotion.

PART II: PLAYING BIGGER Expand how you operate, influence, and lead.

The Altitude Shift™ reframes advancement as a change in how you operate, not how hard you work. Build composure under pressure, communicate in ways that shape understanding, grow influence through relationships, and develop through small experiments rather than endless preparation.

PART III: SUSTAINABILITY Build a career that doesn't require abandoning yourself.

Burnout is an occupational condition, not a personal failing. Identify the essential needs and survival patterns shaping how you work: perfectionism, people-pleasing, certainty-seeking, endless proving. Then build a more sustainable way of leading. The book ends on intrinsic self-worth: you are worthy for who you are, not what you accomplish.

Every chapter ends with reflection questions and a Radical Tip: one small, concrete action.

Why this book is different

Most leadership books work on outward behavior. This one starts with how you see yourself, because the quiet achiever's real constraint isn't skill. It's the inner narrative that whispers you're not ready, not good enough, not deserving of what you want.

Part memoir, part practical guide. I draw on my own two burnouts, three attempts at one promotion, and a career spent feeling like an outsider, alongside composite stories from more than 250 coaching clients.

Try the work before the book arrives

Seven worksheets drawn from the book: the same exercises I use with coaching clients. Clarify what makes you effective, name the patterns keeping you small, and see where the way you're living and working is wearing you down.

You'll be first to know when the book is out, plus occasional notes on leading as yourself. Unsubscribe anytime. By submitting, you agree to the Privacy Policy. Prefer to try one first? Start with the Motivators exercise.
